Cultivate Holistic Habitat
to Deepen Connection Between People and Place
Intersect’s ongoing restoration efforts are rooted in a deep sense of community stewardship. Each project reflects a dedication to preserving the past while creating opportunities for the future. This commitment to both historical and cultural renewal serves as a testament to the power of place—transforming spaces that hold rich histories into thriving, dynamic environments for future generations where culture and creatures can flourish.
Community Stewardship + Restoration
The Congregation, Dylan Mortimer
Over the past 10 years Intersect has been part of reinvigorating a number of facilities including the former Holy Cross Lutheran School and a small private residence that is now home to Arts + Faith focused Mezzo Gallery. Intersect Arts Center currently stewards a 30,000 sqft. historic building that sits on 1.3 acres of outdoor space including an unruly yard and disused parking lot bursting with potential.
We are working to transform our outdoor space through incremental reimagination. This process opens up economic opportunities for local businesses and artists, educational opportunities for youth, and impact community health and home values.
Accessible Green Space
Proposed Splash-pad, Meeting Area, and Nature Play Space
As we steward this place we work to weave respite, play, and beauty into the physical gathering spaces of our broader community. We plan to transform our underutilized parking lot into a public splash-pad, natural playground, and sculpture park with native plantings that will be a haven for families and artists alike who lack walkable play and green space.
Sculpture Park
Proposed Sculpture Park + Garden
We plan to mount ambitious curatorial programming, activating what will be an ever-evolving Sculpture Park & Garden. It will be a place where visitors of all ages can experience both the physicality and history of the land. Advancing projects both permanent and temporary will consider the park’s unique ecological and urban infrastructural context, and seek ways that art can serve as a catalyst for community connection, identity, play, and environmental care.
Events + Festivals
Proposed Community Gathering + Event Opportunities
We will leverage the revitalized grounds and enhanced green space infrastructure to deepen community engagement, foster collaboration, and showcase the region’s creativity. Our plans include expanding the community favorite Fall Festival, while also introducing exciting new outdoor events such as an interdisciplinary Summer Performing Arts Festival. These initiatives will serve as cornerstones for enhancing cultural exchange, encouraging local business participation, and creating fresh opportunities for connection. In the future we are interested in establishing a walkable corridor connecting to the Cherokee Arts District, broadening our neighborhood impact and enriching the unique arts landscape of the area.
Outdoor Education
Proposed Garden Beds
We also plan to invest in outdoor education, aiming to create immersive, learning experiences for individuals of all ages that encourages environmental stewardship and fosters a deeper understanding of local ecosystems. Partnering with local schools, engaging with our afterschool program and creating intergenerational workshops we plan to invest in education staff and allocate resources to hire specialized staff to maintain the grounds. As part of our long-term vision, we are pursuing arboretum and botanical garden status for our property in collaboration with the Holy Cross Gardens.
