Ceramics Studio + Membership

 

About the Ceramics Studio:

The ceramics studio, a lively maker’s space on our first floor, stays busy daily with studio members working on personal projects, afterschool kids exploring the wild world of ceramics, and monthly workshops and classes for our wider community to discover the fun of playing with clay!

Our ceramics studio features four electric throwing wheels, a slab roller, tables for hand-building, a variety of tools for wheel throwing or hand-building and a variety of studio glazes for you to experiment with. We currently run two electric kilns (cone 04 bisque and cone 5/6 glaze firing). We also have storage spaces for members to store projects/clay/tools.

Ceramics membership :

The studio is open to anyone with basic knowledge on how to work with clay. We do not provide training so members need to be independent. Because of our electric set up, we only fire at cone 04 for bisque and cone 5/ 6 med speed for glaze. We only reclaim bmix and speckled buff clay. Members and artists are welcome to use any other type of clay that fit our firing profile in the studio but they will be responsible to reclaim.

The base membership is $50/month. Non-Resident Artist studio members can add between 1-4 storage shelves to their monthly fee. The most common is two shelves, with a monthly cost of $60. Members who also rent private studio space at Intersect are not allowed storage space in the ceramics studio.

Membership to the studio is paid month to month via digital invoice sent to your inbox at the beginning of each month, and includes:

  • 24/7 access to the studio (with the exception of some classes or private events)

  • Access to all the equipment in the studio (slab roller, extruder, sink, tools, throwing wheels, bats, etc)

  • Studio glazes

  • Bisque and Glaze firing

  • Opportunity to purchase clay at our wholesale price whenever we place a clay order (this is credited to the monthly invoice)

  • discounts to Intersect events

For resident artists (people who rent a studio space upstairs): Resident artists can add access to the ceramics studio for $20 on top of the regular monthly studio rent. This includes 24/7 access to the ceramics studio and firing. It does not include storage shelves in the ceramics studio.
