Artventures Mentor

Intersect Arts Center is seeking visual art mentors to teach in our elementary after school program, Artventures. Dates for the fall semester are Aug. 19 - Dec. 19 2019, with mandatory planning sessions on Aug. 12-13. Program hours are 3pm-5:30pm every Monday & Wednesday, Tues & Thurs, or both. This is a part-time position, 5-7 hrs/week.

Responsibilities include:
-Planning and leading visual art projects for a group of 5 students in 2nd-6th grade from our partner school, EAGLE Gravois Park
-Providing homework help/tutoring
-Providing behavioral supports and interventions for students as needed
-Supporting childrens’ socio-emotional growth, identity development, and conflict resolution
-Helping plan and install end-of-semester exhibition

Qualifications:
-Experience teaching art in extracurricular or in-school setting, ideally with elementary aged youth
-Experience in community arts, socially-engaged practice, and/or a commitment to social justice
-Commitment to equity, inclusion, and anti-oppression/anti-bias frameworks
-Understanding of trauma-informed practices
-Knowledge of child development
-Passion for working with youth

Pay: $20/hr, including paid monthly staff meetings/PD

Artventures Junior Mentor


Are you between the ages of 15-19? Do you like visual art, community-building, and being a role model for kids? Do you want to get paid to work with kids and make art

Apply to be a Junior Mentor for the Artventures program at Intersect Arts Center! 

Artventures is an after-school art program for kids in 2nd-6th grade. You will be an assistant to a professional teaching artist working with 4 to 5 kids. 

The Details: 

  • Work Mon/Wed OR Tues/Thurs from 3:30-5:30pm

  • Aug. 19 - Dec. 19 

  • Paid monthly staff meetings and trainings

  • Pay: $10/hour + attend Friday art classes for free!

Teen Studio Teaching Artists

Intersect Arts Center is seeking teaching artists to lead a month-long arts workshop (in any discipline) for teens on Fridays from 4:30-6pm during the 2019-2020 school year. These workshops will be open to youth ages 14-18, with up to 15 students per class. This is a part-time position.

Responsibilities include:
-Planning and leading an engaging 4-week arts project for up to 15 teens ages 14-18
-Documenting work created as requested
-Supporting socioemotional needs of youth as needed, with support from other Intersect staff
-Set-up and clean-up each day of workshop

Qualifications:
-Experience working with and/or teaching youth ages 14-18
-Experience planning and facilitating arts projects, with priority given to projects focused on collaboration, activism, social justice, identity, and community-building
-Experience in community arts, socially-engaged practice, and/or a commitment to social justice
-A commitment to equity, inclusion, and anti-oppression/anti-bias frameworks
-Understanding of trauma-informed practices-Passion for working with teenage youth
-Maintains a personal or professional creative practice

Pay: $20/hr including paid planning/prep
